What the hell is "Audere"?
You know the first part.
- It's pronounced "aw-dare-ay".
- It's Latin
- It means to dare/have, to have courage, to act boldly, to venture, intend, or be prepared.
Here's the story.
Back when I was starting Audere (before it was Audere), I was sat in my home office trying to think up a name, searching for a .com.au domain to go with it.
Bell Coach? Meh. Taken anyway. Better Advice? Taken. Cadence Consulting! Nope. Taken.
...and so it went on. The time went by, and still no name.
My view wandered to a signed football shirt on the wall - Paul Gascoigne's #8 shirt from 1988, next to it Gary Lineker's 1990 Holsten number, also signed.
And there was the club crest - cockeral on a ball, and the motto underneath.
"Audere Est Facere" - To dare is to do.
It seemed almost a perfect name for a coach who wanted to head in a different direction, and the domain was available for the sweet price of $9.95.
And so Audere was born.
I retrospect, maybe it wasn't the perfect choice - hard to pronounce, nobody knows what it means. Naomi Christopher once advised me to "change the damn name", then after I explained said, well at least explain why...."
She's a smart lady, so now you know :)
